2013 Top 20 and more..

PlaylistsPosted by Hippograffix Dec 31, 2013 00:34

Nerds unite, it's list time!

Fellow nerds and control freaks, isn't that what lists are all about? Filing and putting things in order, preferably with a good explanation :-) You'll get no explanation here though and this is just as last year, a top 20 based on what I enjoyed the most this year. All in alphabetical order and since I tend to listen to lots of different stuff, the 20 are usually pretty diverse. As last year the number of great albums released were, at least in my opinion, quite extensive to say the least and the ones that didn't make it were sometimes just as good as the ones that did but in my humble opinion maybe lacked the element of surprise, or had one too many songs on it or whatever…it's all subjective, right!?

Some words on a couple of cool re-issues from 2013 worth checking out. The ZZ Top collection is the first time a couple of the albums are put out on cd/digital with the original mixes, hooray! Before the original drums were replaced with samples and it's been a true lesson in bad taste and disrespect to one of the greatest bands in rock history. Bl'ast - Blood is a new mix done by Dave Grohl to the album originally called It's In My Blood, great 80's US HC that take no prisoners. The Elvis at Stax Box is really cool, especially the 3CD version. What a band and the man himself is on fire as well!

Saint Vitus - COD & Die Healing

Elvis Presley - Elvis at Stax

Hawkwind - Warrior On The Edge Of Time Box Set

Bl'ast - Blood

ZZ Top - Complete Columbia Albums

Jimi Hendrix - Miami Pop Festival

The soundtrack to Dave Grohl's movie about the recording studio Sound City is also worth looking into. A bunch of people who normally don't lend their services to rock comps like Sir Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, and Rick Springfield rock out like there's no tomorrow and mixed with the talents of Trent Reznor, BRMC, Chris Goss & Josh Homme it makes for a very entertaining listen I'd say.
